If you use a discreet sound card, what do you use it for? What benefit did it give you?

Sound cards used to deliver greater audio quality than onboard sound. These days, however, that is no longer the case. They have really been working on the quality of onboard sound. The rig that I am building, is probably the last motherboard that uses sound cards. They have largely made them obsolete.
The sound card I have for it is a Creative Sound Blaster Z SE.
